As Twisted Scriptures have traded for the last 5 years, we often assumed that our customers know about LED technology. But this is not always the case. LED technology is a newer technology and is quite often misunderstood in what it can offer a household, shop front or industrial warehouse.
So what is a LED?
LED Stands for ‘Light Emitting Diode’. They are emerging as the smart and greener choice to their incandescent and halogen cousins. In the last 20 years, LED’s have started to dominate the commercial and domestic lighting market, with more efficient diodes and packages being created as the technology progresses. They have also started to drop in price as more of the populous embraces them.
What makes up a LED package and components that make it work?
The ‘LED module’ is only one part of the overall package. Heat management is very important for the longevity of the LED. The ‘Heatsink’ needs to be of adequate size to cool the LED module, otherwise it will overheat. The ‘LED driver’ is responsible for the voltage, current and wattage of the complete package, and delivers power to the LED module. The ‘Socket’ and ‘Base’ determine the type of fitting the package can be applied.
